Embroidered
jewelry?
Jewelry can be embroidered.
And we love it.
Because when we think of Mexican jewelry, it's easy to think of silver. Of metals worked for generations. Of symbols that have been telling stories for centuries.
But Mexico is also color.
It's in our textiles, our houses, our streets, our celebrations, our flowers, our markets, and a craft tradition that has never been too afraid to mix colors.
What if we could
embroider a piece of jewelry?
01 / First came the silver
Our pieces start out as .925 silver jewelry, worked in Mexico.
Every design is thought out starting from the metal: its shape, its proportions, and especially the tiny holes the thread will later pass through.
Because for us, embroidery isn't something you add at the end.
The piece is born already knowing it will be embroidered.
Every hole has a place, and every stitch has a path. The design has to work before it has thread, while it's being embroidered, and once it finally reaches the hands of the person who'll wear it.
02 / Then came the thread
The technique we use at Nuve was developed by our founder after experimenting with different ways of bringing embroidery to a material that, at first glance, would seem to have very little to do with it.
There were several challenges.
The embroidery had to be tough enough to keep up with a piece that gets worn in real life. It had to live alongside silver without losing its shape.
And there was one thing that mattered a lot to us:
It had to look good
from the front and the back.
Because a piece of jewelry doesn't have a side nobody sees.
It moves. It turns. It gets touched. It gets looked at up close.
So the path of the thread, the placement of the holes, and the way each embroidered section gets finished kept evolving until they became the technique we use today.
A technique built to last for years with the right care, while also making sure the piece feels finished from every angle.
We didn't just want to put color on top of the silver.
We wanted the thread to become part of the jewelry itself.
And then
came the color.
03 / Never exactly the same
The same silver piece can change completely depending on the threads that run through it.
It can be subtle. It can be bold. It can carry two colors or many.
And even if we embroider the same design hundreds of times, there's something no machine can replicate exactly:
Every piece passed through someone's hands.
Stitch by stitch.
That's why small variations can exist from one piece to the next. We don't try to hide them.
We like them.
They're part of what it means to make something by hand.
Silver, thread,
and Mexico.
04 / Two languages
We like to think that Nuve lives exactly at that meeting point.
On one side there's silver, a material deeply tied to the history of Mexican jewelry.
On the other there's thread, color, and a textile tradition that runs through practically our entire country.
We simply found a way to make the two of them talk to each other.
Not to try to reproduce a traditional technique, or to look at Mexico only through the past.
But to take all that language around us and ask what we can do with it today.
Contemporary Mexican jewelry, made with silver, thread, design, and a whole lot of hours of work.
05 / A piece of jewelry made to be worn
The thread is tough, and our technique is built to last for years with the right care.
But we also believe that things that actually get used eventually end up telling the story of having been used.
The thread can get dirty. It can wear down. It can lose a bit of color.
And that's okay.
We'd rather make jewelry meant to go through life with you than jewelry meant to stay locked away in a box.
That's why every one of our pieces comes with a lifetime warranty on the embroidery.
If the thread on your Nuve ever needs replacing, you can always send the piece back to us.
We take it in, remove the old embroidery, and start over.
You just cover the cost of shipping.
